The Book
In 2010, the Historical Society released a revised edition of the 1985 Stone Houses of Old Townsend to coincide with Spruce Row Museum's Celebration of 25 years at the Pickle Factory. First written by Carole Barber and updated by Alison Bell, it examines the 29 stone structures in Old Townsend Township.
Many of the houses were built by Alexander Skinner or George Wallace, both Scots. Wallace had previously worked on the construction of the Welland Canal.
Packed with pictures and new information, the book has been received very well by the community. Homeowners, genealogists and history buffs can all find something here to interest them.
Copies are available for $15 for local delivery or pick-up.
We can mail one within Canada or the United States for $18.50.
