Quilting for a Cause: Red Cross Exhibits of the Great War Waterford Heritage & Agricultural Museum 159 Nichol Street, Waterford Join James Christison, Curator of the Waterford Heritage & Agricultural Museum (WHAM), as he discusses this one-of-a-kind Quilt exhibit. For the first time ever, this collection of stunning works of art have been brought together, to highlight an amazing history of devotion, perseverance, and commemoration of WWI. Crafted between 1914 and 1918, entire communities joined together to create remarkable Red Cross signature quilts in support of their soldiers and the war effort. The talk will be held at WHAM, and the exhibit ends February 15, so this will be your last opportunity to view the quilts together. |

Wednesday May 8, 2019 United Empire Loyalists with a focus on Norfolk County Speaker Sandra McNamara comes from strong Loyalist stock. To honour her grandmother, Clara Leone Woolley Brookfield, she began delving back to founding families of New Jersey, (who moved from Rhode Island), combined with the early settlers of New York, and discovered that after five generations, these same families moved during and after the Revolutionary War to become some of the founding families along the shores of Lake Erie in Norfolk County. |

Wednesday October 9, 2019 When Tobacco Was King: A History of Tobacco in Canada and the United States Drawing on his book When Tobacco Was King, speaker Paul Allen shares the story of his father’s rise from humble North Carolina tobacco farmer to president of Canada’s second largest tobacco leaf buyer and processor, weaving biography, social history and business history, and recounting through his father's experiences how tobacco contributed to the Canadian economy, especially from 1927-1972. |
Monday 4 November, 2019 7:30 p.m. The Places We Live: Waterford Ontario Waterford Anglican Church 73 Main St. S, (Temperance St. entrance) Guest Speaker Jack Jackowetz is a post impressionist photographer and keen historian. He brings everyday places, objects and images to life with a vibrant, whimsical use of colour. “I take pictures of things that capture my imagination,” says Jackowetz. Often those things are of buildings, sometimes industrial, worn by age, abandoned or soon to be demolished. Jackowetz delves into each subject by haunting local libraries and museums, learning the back story of what was and what now is.
