Fall is somehow already upon us! And September is full of wonderful local historical events to make the transition easier :-).
So rather than having a separately-scheduled meeting this month, we’re encouraging attendance at the following events, which feature our own members as tour guides or speakers:
September 22-24: Waterford 150 Celebration

September 22-24: Waterford 150 Celebration
- There are 4 tours on each day, lasting 1.5 hours. The walks feature history snippets, related food stories, and noshes created by local chef Tracy Winkworth (prior owner of Waterford’s Belworth House restaurant).
- Tickets are limited, and can be purchased from the Waterford Heritage & Agricultural Museum (WHAM), Waterford Old Town Hall, and online at www.ticketscene.ca/Waterford. All tours start and end at WHAM.

Saturday September 30: William Edgar Cantelon Exhibit
As part of the Norfolk County Libraries Culture Days, the Old Woodhouse United Church will be displaying the largest exhibit of Cantelon paintings ever mounted outside the walls of Eva Brook Donly Museum (60+), on Saturday September 30. William Cantelon was a Norfolk County artist (1866-1950), who devoted a great part of his life to painting the historical buildings, personalities, landscapes, and scenes of Norfolk County.
WTHS member (and WHAM curator) James Christison will be giving a free presentation at 11:00 a.m.

A talk by historical society member Mike McDonnell: Civil War History: Abolitionism & the Fugitive Slave Law Learn of the role that the Fugitive Slave Law played in pushing the U.S. towards Civil War, and of Canadian connections to those events (including the Underground Railroad and the Abolitionist movement in Canada). Note: This meeting was on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. |
For those who missed Mike McDonnell's talk due to the weather, he will be speaking again on May 17, on 'Abolitionism vs The Fugitive Slave Law'.

Freemasonry is the oldest and largest fraternity dedicated to the “Brotherhood of Man”, with traditions traced directly to stone masons of the middle ages. |
For those who missed the Masonic Hall Tour, there will be an Open House on Saturday 3 June, for the 300th anniversary of the Masons in England.

Music of the Confederation Generation
An early celebration for the 150th birthday of our nation! We enjoyed a mix of songs and instrumental music from the time of Confederation headed by the always entertaining Ian Bell.
This was a licensed event generously sponsored by Bonnieheath Estate Lavender & Winery, with desserts by Serafina. Admission: $10 at the door.
One of Ian's most recent projects is the database of Ontario Traditional Music - www.ontariotraditionalmusic.ca
